EMERGENCY PROCEDURE AND SAFETY ....................... contd.....
Q10. What
action will you take if you notice large scale release of radioactive material
or a major fire or
explosion?
A. Evacuation will be done and all should be
assembled in Low block entrance hall. Follow the instruction
of Shift In-Charge.
Q11. What are
the equipments connects to emergency power?
A. Priority I & II.
Q12. What is
the purpose of battery lights provided in the plant?
A. It is as exit lights in case of total
power failure.
Q13. What is
the frequency of testing emergency lights provided in the plant?
A. Emergency lights are tested weekly on
Tuesday.
Q14. What
checks are made to clear the area for work after the power supply is restored?
A. Air samples of area are taken to check the
air activity; swabs are taken to check the loose
Contamination in the area. Also the
radiation field existing in that area is measured.
Q15. What is
the interlock given between exhaust fan and supply fan? Why?
A. Supply fan can be started only if exhaust
fans are running. And if exhaust fan is tripped respective area
fan also trips. The interlock is made
to maintain the negative air pressure in the plant.
Q16. How the
dampers of exhaust fan are kept open when compressed air is not available? What
is the –ve
& +ve pressure?
A
Dampers of exhaust fan can be operated pneumatically with the help of
Parkinson Air compressor
Otherwise manual operation is also
possible.
-ve pressure +ve pressure: It is the pressure which is less that
atmospheric pressure. So that outside air can enter in plant but inside air
should not release to outside for +ve
pressure it is vice versa.
Q17. What are the locations of emergency exits in
the plant?
A. 1 No. at 1st fl. Room no. 121,
2 nos. at 2nd fl. Inactive lab & spectroscopy lab., 2 Nos. at 3rd
fl. Pu lab
Annex & Pu re-conversion lab.
Q18. What action is to be taken in case of
extended total power failure?
A. In case of extended total power failure,
the high block should be declared “NO ENTRY” area. Also as
Soon as adequate cooling is
accomplished in the process condensers, the isolating valve should be
Closed. And the entire flow diverted
to the waste tank off gas condenser.
Q19. What is
the action to be taken in case of small fire in the radioactive area?
A. Use appropriate fire extinguisher to
extinguish fire, inform to control room and make people alert in
that area.
Q20. What care
should be taken in an area to prevent fire?
A. Do not smoke where inflammable materials
are kept. Keep proper ventilations in such areas. Keep
Knowledge of main switches of such
areas to switch off electrical supply. Remove unwanted material
which catch fire like papers, wooden
materials etc. In particularly hazardous atmosphere, use flame
Proof and fire proof equipments.
Q21. How the
mops and cotton waste having hydrazine and acid should be handled to prevent
fire?
A. Mops and cotton waste having acid are to
be sealed in container and to be disposed. Hydrazine mops
